Excerpt One

“It’s cold,” I lied. It was cold, but that was absolutely not the reason for the goose flesh. He knew it and I knew it. And I hated it. I didn’t like for people to get under my skin. It made me feel too vulnerable, like they had power over me. When they had power, they could hurt you, leave you, die and leave you destroyed. I wasn't up for any more of that. Except for Clara; she was already attached to me and I owed it to her.

He looked over. Even in the dark with barely any light being provided from the streetlamps, I could see his purple eyes searching mine. “Just help me and then you never have to see me again.”

It was almost like he could tell what I’d been thinking about.

 Excerpt Two 

I fed on her terror and fright and it tasted like heaven in my mouth. But as I looked down at that woman who had just given herself to me, and I hadn’t even had to persuade her to, it washed over me all at once how I didn’t really want to hurt her. That I wanted to hurt people, but not her. Not really. I had gotten everything I needed from her without doing that, hadn’t I? I was full and sated. Now I was just letting my true nature take over, letting the Devourer in me take over.

But wasn’t that what I was supposed to do? I looked down at that woman and was so confused. I cursed Clara and Eli and all their love and human bullcrap for turning me into the thing that I was now.

No. I realized then that this was my turning point. That if I let this girl go, that I would be just like my brother one day and that wasn’t what I wanted. I was not going to be some human. I was a Devourer. My chin ached from clenching it so tightly. I turned my glare fully on her and knew that honestly it wasn’t her fault, but she was about to pay the price for my brother’s mistake.

“I’m sorry, love.” I lifted her by her arms and then leaned into her, pressing her to the wall.

“For what?” her small voice asked, falsely reassured by my about-face. “What are you doing to me?”

My Review:Promise Me Forever

In Sarah Ashley Jones's first book, Promise Me Forever, we meet Charlie and Jhett.  Charlie has just lost her brother and has flown out to his apartment in California to pack up his belongings.  But soon she meets Jhett and her life changes dramatically.  

No spoilers:  Sarah has blown me away with this story of love, lost, redemption, and acceptance.  I loved the way this story unfolded seamlessly around these characters and I was routing for them to get their Happily Ever After (which thank goodness, FINALLY comes in Promise Me Forever).  I was left boo-hooing through the end of this book and lingering on these characters in my thoughts for days after being done.  

I was lucky enough to read both Promise Me This and Promise Me Forever back-to-back.  If you've not read either, I suggest you do it this way too!  Sarah does leave you hanging at the end of book 1!  

Either way, this book and the subsequent novella will engage and touch you!  Pick up your copies today!!

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

1. My Mom - My mother has always been the first person to push me to follow my crazy dreams and writing a book was definitely ones of those dreams. She played a huge part in actually getting Promise Me This published and I would probably never have finished if it wasn't for her.
2. Amy Bartol - Everything she writes I find myself continuously thinking 'I want to be like her someday.' She's my inspiration - my who I want to be when I grow up. :P
3. Mrs. Washer - My first grade teacher. I remember she would have these blank little booklets made up for us to make up our own stories and illustrate them when we were done with work or during free time and I would try and finish my work earlier so I could go digging through them to find one I wanted to use. They were cut out into different shapes like apple barrels, trees, cats, dogs, etc. She was also one of the most encouraging ladies I have ever met in my life. Truly an amazing person and teacher.
4. Tess Watson - She happened to be there since day one when I said 'I think I'm going to try and write a book.' And I sent her all my crazy first ideas and then all the words that started Promise Me This until the very end. She always told me KEEP GOING. So I did. LOL.
5. Person on my blog  - Once upon a time, for a hot minute, I was a book blogger. And someone commented on my blog that I should write my own book because she read my About Me section and from that alone, she could tell she would love my writing style. That was the very first seed planting in my head of 'maybeeeeeee I should try and write a book.'
6. Tina Reber - This lovely lady was who introduced me to Self-Publishing. I found her books through Amazon suggestions on my Kindle and she was the first author who I saw included a Facebook link in the back of her book. Since I had to wait for book two, I liked her page and right before release of book two, she announced she was picked up by a publisher and it threw me off so much. I couldn't understand what that meant because I thought since I read her book on my Kindle and bought it from the Kindle store...it WAS published. Once she explained what it all meant, I was like....WHAT! I can do this myself!? I'm on it!
7. The Haters - Yeah. I've had a few people try and bring me down...but they are some big reasons why I keep going and wanted to prove that I COULD do this crazy thing called being an author. So HAH. I did it. And I'm going to keep doing it. :P
8. Patrick Ness - Another author who I want to be like when I grow up. This man is the King of Plot Twists. I just...there are no words. I want to mess with people's minds like he did to me!
9. My Husband - He never once told me to reconsider this journey and for that, I am sooo thankful. Especially when I am running off four Monster Energy Drinks and five hours of sleep after three days and I'm kind of terrifying. Thanks babe.
10. Virtual Life - Once upon a time when the Internet first came out and forums were a big thing...I, along with a few other young girls, formed this little online group called Virtual Life.  Basically, we all had our own family that we wrote about every day and sometimes we even crossed over families when it came to relationships and such. We saved all our files on floppy disks...it was THAT long ago. It really was my first taste of writing long and thought out stories. I WISH I still had those floppies!
